We need new roofing labourers to join our team.
According to Reuters, the UK unemployment hits 48-year low and for the first time on record the number of people out of work was less than the job vacancies available.
Is this why we can’t find new employees in the roofing industry?
Despite increasing our minimum starting wage to £10 an hour, our resent search for Roofing Apprentices, Roofing and Scaffold Labourers and a more Experienced Scaffolder has been unsuccessful.
Whether you blame Brexit or the COVID 19 pandemic, or the disinterestedness of young people in learning a trade in a physically demanding industry, the result is the same…
We have work we can’t deliver because of staff shortages.
We have mused over the fact that people entering work for the first time may prefer a job that’s indoors, offers flexible or part-time hours, is working for a recognised brand or maybe there simply aren’t enough people currently seeking employment.
Working in the roofing or construction trade is hard work, we understand this, having been in the roofing trade for over 30 years. Working with your hands, up high and in all weathers doesn’t appeal to everyone. But we know there are people out there who are suited to this type of work and thrive in this industry.
A senior craftsman could earn more than £60k per annum if they put in the hours. Getting into a trade such as roofing can give you a skill set for life, the opportunity to progress within our company or the chance to set up your own business in the future.
This proves that roofing can be a career for life!
