At West Country Tiling we offer so much more than roofing and roof refurbishment. There are many different elements that make up a roofing project, especially when working on the types of historical buildings that we specialise in.
Replacement rainwater goods – lead downpipes and hoppers
We were recently asked to replace the lead downpipes and hoppers that were stolen from a prestigious historical building in North London. Hopper heads are the square, round or rectangular buckets fitted to the top of downpipes to funnel the rainwater, these traditionally have intricate patterns cast into the lead.
To recreate the ornate design on the leadwork previously found on the building in North London, we took a mould from one of the remaining pipes and hoppers, thankfully the thieves didn’t take them all. Using our customised sand-cast method, we were able to create replica leadwork to match the original design. We are delighted with the results.
Other services we offer
Roofing is not just about tiles, there are so many other elements to what we do. Before we can even start a project, the scaffolding needs to go up. We use SAM Scaffold from Frome in Somerset.
On listed, historically significant or ecclesial projects, specialist materials are often needed to accurately recreate what was there before. We can source new and reclaimed materials for this purpose.
As well as leadwork, we offer iron rainwater goods, traditional lath and plaster, and stain glass window refurbishment. We can provide expert stone masons, carpenters, and decorators to work alongside us on your roofing projects.
