30% of any heat lost in your house is through the roof. That is why insulating your home using the right product is so important. Roof insulation will improve the energy efficiency of your home, which in turn helps reduce carbon emissions.
You can benefit significantly by insulating your roof efficiently, including:
- Energy efficiency – the right roof insulation helps to maintain a consistent temperature in your home by preventing heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer.
- Reduced energy consumption – when your house is well-insulated, you are less likely to rely heavily on heating and cooling systems, which are often powered by fossil fuels. This means that less energy is needed to heat or cool your home, reducing your reliance on fossil fuels.
- Long-term environmental impact – properly installed roof insulation can have long-lasting effects, continually reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. This long-term impact contributes to sustainability and helps to mitigate climate change.
Steico Roof Insulation
Common roof insulation is made from fibreglass, which can cause health issues if inhaled or if it comes into contact with skin. Although it is effective in insulating your home, producing fibreglass requires a significant amount of energy, if it gets wet from a roof leak it must be replaced and it is not biodegradable.
At West Country Tiling, our preference is to use Steico roof insulation or Steico loft insulation. Their products are made from all natural materials, making them efficient and more environmentally friendly than traditional insulation. For example, Steico Flex thermal insulation, is made from natural wood fibres. It has excellent insulation properties in winter and heat protection in the summer. Because it is made from wood, it is vapour permeable, it is ecological, environmentally friendly and also fully recyclable.
Roof tiles
Combining well laid roof tiles with the correct insulation materials will improve the energy efficiency and comfort of your home. If your roof tiles are laid incorrectly, they will allow more air movement above the roof insulation, which will reduce its effectiveness. Badly laid roof tiles may leak, which could also damage your roof insulation.
